Residence - Registering a sole residence or main residence

• You have moved into a sole residence or main residence in Berlin. • Deadline: registration of residence within 14 days of moving in Exceptions: • If you are already registered in Germany and are staying in Berlin for a maximum of six months, you do not need to register. • If you live abroad and are staying in Berlin for a maximum of three months only, you do not need to register. • If you are moving into shared accommodation or other officially provided accommodation as a person doing military service, Bundesfreiwilligendienst (federal volunteer service), Zivildienst (civilian service), a police officer, a Bundeswehr soldier (only for up to 12 months), or another member of the public service (only for training and further education purposes), you do not need to register. • For the move of a minor child: consent declaration from the persons with custody • For online registration: minimum age 18 • For online registration: German citizenship or you are an EU citizen • For online registration: registration/sign-up via BundID service.berlin.de/nutzerkonten/bundid/ • For online registration: activated online ID function (eID) service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/329833/ For this you need: • Your electronic Personalausweis (identity card) or Union Citizen's Card (eID card) with activated online ID function (eID) and the six-digit PIN. Online registration is not possible with an electronic Aufenthaltstitel (residence permit) (eAT). • an external card reader or a modern smartphone with Android or iOS operating system, • the "AusweisApp" app. • For online registration as a family: the persons moving are already jointly registered at the previous address • For registration in person: minimum age 16 If you are under 16 years old, your new main residence must be registered by the adult in whose home you are moving in. • For registration in person: appointment (Termin) required • For registration in person by proxy: written power of attorney

• Registration of residence (Anmeldung) for a sole residence or the main residence (Hauptwohnung) Submit the application online or with a completed registration form in person at the Bürgeramt (citizens' office). • Proof of identity • For online registration: please have ready your valid identity card (Personalausweis) or valid Union Citizen's Card (eID card), each with the online identification function (eID) activated, and your PIN. • For registration in person: valid identity card (Personalausweis) or passport or children's passport (Kinderreisepass) for German nationals; or national passport or passport substitute documents or passport, if applicable together with the eAT (electronic residence permit card), for foreign nationals. Please bring the originals of all necessary documents you have for all persons moving in. • Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord's confirmation of moving in) • Landlords are required to confirm the move-in to their tenants in writing, with signature, within two weeks of the move-in. The confirmation must contain the following information: the name and address of the landlord and, if the landlord is not the owner, also the name of the owner; the move-in date; the address of the residence; and the names of the persons required to register. • Presenting a tenancy agreement does not replace the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. • For Ukrainian refugees: confirmation of permanent provision of accommodation for Ukrainian refugees, for submission to the LEA or LFU (equivalent to the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) (Registration is only possible in person.) • For parents living together with joint custody: declaration of consent (Einverständniserklärung) from the absent parent holding custody • For online registration as a family: click "Bestätigung der Berechtigung" (confirmation of authorization) in the online service. • For registration in person: If the parents live together, both hold custody, and only one parent appears in person to register, an informal declaration of consent from the absent parent must be submitted. • For parents living apart with joint custody: the form "Einverständniserklärung der Sorgeberechtigten" (declaration of consent of the persons with custody) and proof of identity (Registration is only possible in person.) • If, going forward, both persons with custody no longer share a residence with the child, or if the child's sole residence or main residence changes from one person with custody to the other, the persons with custody must submit a declaration of consent. • Please also bring the passport or identity card (Personalausweis) of the other person with custody. • If you have more than one residence: Beiblatt zur Anmeldung/Hauptwohnungserklärung (supplementary sheet for registration / declaration of main residence) (Registration is only possible in person.) • If you are moving into a new residence and do not want to give up your previous residence in Germany, one residence must be designated as the main residence for you and any family members moving with you. • For registration in person: civil status certificates (Personenstandsurkunden) • For your first registration in Berlin, it may additionally be necessary to present civil status certificates (such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate). Any certificates you already have should therefore be brought along as a precaution. • If represented by another person: written power of attorney / declaration of consent • For online registration as a family: click "Bestätigung der Berechtigung" (confirmation of authorization) in the online service. You cannot use the online service to have anyone other than your family members register on your behalf. • For registration in person: Give the other person a power of attorney and the completed registration form. You must sign this form yourself.
