Entitlement to use the Berlin-Ticket S and other discounts

• Main residence in Berlin, or no fixed residence A right to use the Berlin-Ticket S (a reduced-fare public transport ticket) and further discounts is also granted to people who have no fixed residence and receive benefits from the State of Berlin. • Receipt of transfer payments A right to use the Berlin-Ticket S as well as further discounts is granted to all persons who receive one of the following benefits: 1) Arbeitslosengeld II or Sozialgeld (Hartz IV, Bürgergeld [citizen's income]) 2) Sozialhilfe (social assistance) 3) Grundsicherung im Alter (basic income support in old age) 4) Grundsicherung bei voller Erwerbsminderung (basic income support for full reduction in earning capacity) 5) Benefits under the Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz (Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act) 6) Wohngeld (housing benefit) 7) Benefits under the SED-Unrechtsbereinigungsgesetze (SED Injustice Rehabilitation Acts): • Opferrente (victim's pension) under § 17a Strafrechtliches Rehabilitierungsgesetz (Criminal Rehabilitation Act, StrRehaG) • Compensation payments under § 8 Berufliches Rehabilitierungsgesetz (Occupational Rehabilitation Act, BRehaG) • Compensation pension for the severely disabled or occupational damage compensation under § 21 StrRehaG, § 4 Häftlingshilfegesetz (Prisoners' Assistance Act, HHG) and § 3 Verwaltungsrechtliches Rehabilitierungsgesetz (Administrative Rehabilitation Act, VwRehaG) in conjunction with § 144 SGB XIV (Social Code Book XIV) • Occupational damage compensation under § 21 StrRehaG, § 4 Häftlingshilfegesetz (HHG) and § 3 Verwaltungsrechtliches Rehabilitierungsgesetz (VwRehaG) in conjunction with § 89 SGB XIV • NS-Ausgleichsrente (National Socialism compensation pension) under § 13 Gesetz über die Anerkennung und Versorgung der politisch, rassisch oder religiös Verfolgten des Nationalsozialismus (Act on the Recognition and Provision for Persons Persecuted on Political, Racial or Religious Grounds under National Socialism, PrVG) In addition, for benefits 1 to 5, the members of the Bedarfsgemeinschaft (benefit unit) of the person entitled to benefits (family members) may also use the Berlin-Ticket S and further discounts. Likewise, household members of a Wohngeld recipient are entitled, provided they were taken into account when calculating the housing benefit entitlement. This also applies to members of the Bedarfsgemeinschaft (benefit unit) who, because of their own income, have no independent entitlement to benefits themselves, but whose income exceeding their own needs covers the needs of the other members. • If you belong to a certain group of people: an additional application is required If you belong to the following groups of people, a Leistungsnachweis (benefit certificate) is not sent to you automatically. Only certain groups of people receive one on request. These are: • Persons in the Berlin prison system (Justizvollzug) who take part in measures outside of custody • Persons who live in Berlin (e.g. in a special form of housing or in a care home) and receive social assistance benefits in another federal state • Persons with no fixed residence who receive benefits from the State of Berlin • Persons who are resident in Berlin and receive victim's pensions or compensation payments under the SED-Unrechtsbereinigungsgesetze in another federal state • Persons from the Bedarfsgemeinschaft (benefit unit) who, because of their own income, have no independent entitlement to benefits themselves, but whose income exceeding their own needs covers the needs of the other members. Persons who receive benefits under the Sozialgesetzbuch (SGB) VIII (Social Code Book VIII) or other benefits not listed here are not entitled to the Berechtigungsnachweis (certificate of entitlement).

Antrag auf Ausstellung eines Leistungsnachweises für die Nutzung des Berlin-Ticket S sowie weiteren Vergünstigungen (application for issuance of a Leistungsnachweis [proof of entitlement] for use of the Berlin-Ticket S and further discounts) If you belong to one of the following groups, a Leistungsnachweis will not be sent to you automatically. Only certain groups receive it on request. These are: • People who live in a Berlin institution and receive social assistance benefits (Sozialhilfeleistungen) in another federal state receive their Leistungsnachweis on written application from the Amt für Soziales Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg (Social Welfare Office Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg). Please use the "Übersendungsschreiben" (transmittal letter). • People who receive benefits under the SED-Unrechtsbereinigungsgesetze (laws on redress for SED injustices) that are not paid by a Berlin authority receive their Leistungsnachweis on informal request from the Landesamt für Gesundheit und Soziales (LAGeSo, State Office for Health and Social Affairs) in Berlin. There is no application form for this. • People held in Berlin's prison system (Justizvollzug) receive the Leistungsnachweis from their contact person at the Justizvollzugsanstalt (prison). • Only for people who live in Berlin (e.g. in a special form of supported housing, a care home) and receive social assistance benefits in another federal state: Übersendungsschreiben (transmittal letter) to the Bezirksamt Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg (Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Office) To do this, fill out the Übersendungsschreiben, have it stamped and signed by your accommodation, and send it together with a copy of your Leistungsbescheid (benefits notice) to the Amt für Soziales Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. You will then receive your Leistungsnachweis for the use of the Berlin-Ticket S and further discounts sent to you by post from that office.
