Certification of fingerprints for submission to foreign authorities

Beglaubigung von Fingerabdrücken zur Vorlage bei ausländischen Behörden
Machine translation of the German page, 2026-09-15. The German original is binding.
Do you need a set of your fingerprints for a visa application, a certificate of good conduct (Führungszeugnis), or your new national passport? Fingerprints are one of the best-known and most suitable means of identifying a person. For this reason, they are also required by other states — not only for police investigations — for example in connection with a visa application or for a certificate of good conduct (Führungszeugnis) from your home country. More and more states are also moving to include fingerprints in national passports. • As a rule, you can have your fingerprints taken at your consulate or embassy. Sometimes, however, the embassies or consulates of your home country are not located near Berlin. To spare you time-consuming journeys, the Landesamt für Bürger- und Ordnungsangelegenheiten (State Office for Civil and Regulatory Affairs) offers the taking of fingerprints for consular purposes as a service.
