Footway crossovers - construction and modification by the Straßen- und Grünflächenamt (Roads and Green Spaces Office)

• Certification / registration service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/326197/ Non-trafficable parts of the road (e.g. footpaths, green strips) may only be crossed by motor vehicles at specially reinforced crossings (Gehwegüberfahrten [footpath crossings]). To provide access to a garage or a vehicle parking space on private property, these non-trafficable road parts must therefore be lowered and reinforced accordingly. The adjoining property owner is obliged to submit a corresponding application and to bear the construction costs (if applicable, also for replacement tree planting or relocation of a lighting mast). The responsible authority examines this application together with the Fachbereich Grünflächen (Green Spaces Department) as well as the utility and telecommunications companies and the company responsible for street lighting, and issues an approval (Leistungsbescheid [notice imposing the fee]). The adjoining property owner is further obliged to have footpath crossings that are no longer needed removed at their own expense.
