As a rule, sidewalks are not designed to bear heavy loads, such as those caused by construction vehicles driving over them. In such cases, the sidewalk must be protected, for example by a bituminous base layer on foil or oiled paper (provisorische Gehwegüberfahrt, temporary sidewalk crossing). The competent authority approves the construction of such temporary sidewalk crossings by the adjoining property owner or construction company, where applicable subject to requirements and conditions. Before construction begins, there is an obligation, in order to protect underground utility installations, to inquire about the existing lines (e.g. gas, water/wastewater, electricity and telecommunications lines) in the affected area. Information on these lines is available directly from the telecommunications companies and utility companies, or via a Leitungsauskunftsportal (utility line information portal).

Requirements

• For reasons of accessibility, provisional Gehwegüberfahrten (driveway crossings over the footway) must be built level, without a step. • Before starting construction, you must have found out about the existing underground utility lines. • Eligibility to apply Eligible are adjoining property owners (Anlieger) or building owners (Bauherren), or their authorized representatives.

The total size of your files must not exceed 20 MB. A single file may be no more than 5 MB. • Dimensioned sketch plan indicating the period of special use (Sondernutzungszeitraum) • If represented by another person: power of attorney (Vollmacht)
