Applying for a Lebenspartnerschaftsurkunde (civil partnership certificate)

• The civil partnership (Lebenspartnerschaft) has already been certified/recorded by the registry office (Standesamt) in whose district the civil partnership was established. • You are entitled to apply for the certificate The certificate can be applied for by: • both civil partners • a person who is related in a direct line to the persons named in the certificate (parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren) • persons who can credibly demonstrate a legal interest • persons who hold a power of attorney • You must know the responsible registry office (Standesamt) If you do not know the responsible registry office, you have the option of searching for the responsible registry office yourself online free of charge, or you can commission a search for a fee. • For online applications: consent to the electronic payment procedure, or payment by bank transfer • Pay electronically directly in the online procedure by credit card (Visa, Mastercard) • Alternatively, you can pay by bank transfer. You will then receive a fee notice (Gebührenbescheid) by post.

Standesamt (registry office): Responsibility (Zuständigkeit) lies with the registry office in whose district the civil partnership (Lebenspartnerschaft) was actually established (regardless of residence and of where the civil partnership was registered). If you know only "Berlin" as the place of establishment, you can commission, for a fee, a search to determine the responsible registry office.
