Applying for educational assistance for training abroad (Auslands-BAföG)

Exceptions to this are set out in § 10 Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG). • Eligibility of the training institution for funding You can obtain information on the funding eligibility of the training institution from the responsible BAföG-Amt (BAföG office). • Eligibility of the course of training for funding • Need for funding • insufficient income and/or assets of the applicant • insufficient financial capacity of the parents, spouse, or registered civil partner • Regular attendance at the training institution/college/university • Deadline: The application should be submitted in good time. Benefits are granted from the month of application at the earliest, but no earlier than the start of the training. • For the online application: registration/login with your BundID account service.berlin.de/nutzerkonten/bundid/ To submit the application online, log in with your BundID account or register for a BundID account if you do not already have one. • For the online application (optional): activated online ID function (eID) (recommended) or Elster certificate service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/329833/ To log in to your BundID account using the "online ID" option, you need: • Your electronic Personalausweis (identity card), Union citizen's card (eID card), or electronic Aufenthaltstitel (eAT, electronic residence permit), each with the online ID function (eID) activated, and your PIN, • an external card reader or a modern NFC-capable smartphone with an Android or iOS operating system, • the "AusweisApp" software As an alternative to "Online-Ausweis" (online ID), you can also choose the "Elster-Zertifikat" (Elster certificate) or "Benutzername/Passwort" (username/password) option.

• Application for Ausbildungsförderung (training/education assistance) You can submit the application either online, or use the forms and submit the application in writing by post. • In addition to the application, there are many other application forms/forms for determining eligibility that you must complete (documentation of your personal and financial circumstances). • Form: Training Abroad (supplementary sheet) • Proof of identity Valid personal identification documents; where applicable, the Meldebestätigung (registration confirmation) • Proof of residence status for non-German nationals • Proof of income or declaration by the applicant Declaration and, where applicable, evidence of the expected income situation during the approval period. • Proof of assets of the applicant for example for capital-forming insurance policies (life insurance, building society savings insurance, Riester pension contracts, death benefit insurance, funeral provision insurance, and similar), savings accounts, land, real estate, valuables, motor vehicles • Form: Income Declaration (by parents/spouses/registered partners) Proof of income for the second-to-last calendar year (for example, tax assessment notice, where applicable electronic wage tax statement, benefits notice, pension notice) • Depending on the specific individual case, further documents may be required.
