Birth on German seagoing vessels - Initial certification / initial registration

• Birth on a seagoing vessel flying the federal flag (Bundesflagge). • Obligation to report The birth must be reported to the ship's captain without delay by the person obligated to report it. Every parent with custody of the child is obligated to report the birth, or - if the parents with custody are prevented from reporting it - any other person who was present at the birth or who has been informed of the birth from their own knowledge. • Requesting certificates Certificates can preferably be requested using the web form (see "Forms" below), or, if applicable, by post or fax. Requests by telephone are not possible.

• Written record by the ship's captain regarding the notification of the birth • The need for further documents depends on the individual case.

• Request for a birth certificate (Geburtsurkundenanforderung) www.berlin.de/labo/buergerdienste/standesamt-i-in-berlin/urk • For an in-person appointment, no application form is required.

• 12,00 Euro: Geburtsurkunde (birth certificate) • 6,00 Euro: each additional certificate issued at the same time • 12,00 Euro: international birth certificate • 6,00 Euro: each additional certificate issued at the same time • 12,00 Euro: certified register extract, Geburtenregister (birth register) • 6,00 Euro: each additional certified register extract issued at the same time
