Lebenspartnerschaft (civil partnership) - initial certification / initial registration of the establishment of a civil partnership abroad - without domestic residence

• The civil partnership (Lebenspartnerschaft) was established abroad. • Residence abroad The civil partners or applicants have never had a residence in Germany. • Validity for the German legal domain The civil partnership is certified once its validity for the German legal domain has been established. • Right to apply The civil partners are entitled to apply; if both have died, their parents and children are also entitled.

• Lebenspartnerschaftsurkunde (civil partnership certificate) • current certified copies from the register of births (Geburtenregister), including the notes section, for both civil partners If the birth was registered in a German register of births • Birth certificates of both civil partners If the birth was registered exclusively abroad • Identity card (Personalausweis) or passport of the civil partners • Proof of all previous marriages or civil partnerships Proof of all previous marriages or civil partnerships of the civil partners (proof of the marriage / formation of the civil partnership and its dissolution) • Documents in a foreign language Documents in a foreign language generally require translation and, where applicable, certification. • Whether further documents are required depends on the individual case. If the submission of further documents or evidence is required, you will be notified accordingly once processing has begun. • Note: Supporting documents must be enclosed with the application in original form or as a certified copy. Simple copies or electronically transmitted documents are unfortunately not sufficient.
