Certification of information in tax matters, certificates of residence for use abroad (apostille/legalisation)

If you want to use a document issued by a Berlin Finanzamt (tax office) abroad, you may need to have the document authenticated. There are two forms of this authentication: the apostille and the legalization. Procedure • Documents from Berlin tax offices must first be certified by the Steuerabteilung (tax department) of the Senatsverwaltung für Finanzen (Senate Department for Finance). • The Landesamt für Bürger- und Ordnungsangelegenheiten (LABO) (State Office for Civic and Regulatory Affairs) then affixes the apostille or the preliminary certification for legalization to the documents. (Information on the further procedure can be found under "Further information"). • No fees are charged at the Berlin tax offices or at the Senatsverwaltung für Finanzen. The final fees for the certification(s) (apostille/legalization) are payable to the Landesamt für Bürger- und Ordnungsangelegenheiten (LABO).
