Children's and youth recreational trips (Kinder- und Jugenderholungsreisen) are pedagogically supervised trips for children and young people. They are intended to promote, in particular, rest and relaxation, participation and active involvement, social and democratic behavior, mutual understanding between people with and without disabilities, understanding and acceptance of different social and national backgrounds, as well as learning about and preserving nature, the environment, and culture. The trips are supervised by professionally qualified pedagogical staff. Children's and youth recreational trips are offered by some Bezirksämter (district offices) (including as host-family offers) and by many providers of Jugendhilfe (youth welfare services) in the voluntary/non-statutory sector. Independent providers also offer integration trips for children and young people with disabilities.
