Report pest infestation

Infestation by certain pests, in particular rats, must be reported to the responsible Gesundheitsamt (health office). This obligation usually falls on property management companies and property owners. Tenants should contact their landlord or property owner. Infestation of a shared facility (Gemeinschaftseinrichtung) by cockroaches, pharaoh ants, or large numbers of flies must likewise be reported to the responsible Gesundheitsamt. In the event of an infestation, pest control measures are carried out. On private land, the property owner is generally required to commission pest control. On public land, the district office (Bezirksamt) takes care of the control measures. The result of the pest control, including the pesticides used, must be reported in writing to the responsible Gesundheitsamt. This is usually done by the specialist who carried out the work. You can report a pest infestation by letter, email, or telephone. The following details are particularly relevant: location of the sighting, owner of the property, contact details of the person reporting it, and photographic documentation. You can use a form for the report. Infestation by other pests such as wasps, mosquitoes, beetles, or mice does not need to be reported. To report accumulations of rubbish and related concerns about rats being attracted, contact the district Ordnungsamt (public order office).
