Translators - remuneration in criminal and administrative fine proceedings

• Commissioning of a translation You must have been commissioned by the court or the investigating authority to translate a document. In addition, you must have carried out work within the scope of your assignment. • Timely billing or application submission Your claim to remuneration generally expires if it is not asserted within a period of three months with the court or the investigating authority that commissioned you. The period begins when your translation is received by the body that commissioned you. If your assignment ends prematurely, the period begins as soon as you have been notified of the premature termination.

• Billing for your translation work Please submit your invoice in duplicate together with your translation, quoting the case reference number (Geschäftszeichen) of the proceedings.

The Amtsgericht Tiergarten (Tiergarten Local Court) has sole responsibility for the remuneration of translators and interpreters in criminal proceedings and administrative fine proceedings at the Amtsgericht Tiergarten and the Landgericht Berlin (Berlin Regional Court), and in investigation proceedings of the Amtsanwaltschaft (Public Prosecutor's Office for minor offences) and the Staatsanwaltschaft Berlin (Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office).
