• Registration during the registration period Please register your child, who is subject to compulsory schooling (schulpflichtig), between 05.10. and 16.10.2026 at the Grundschule (primary school) responsible for you, which will be communicated to you by the Bezirksschulamt (district school office). • Your child is subject to compulsory schooling Your child was born between 01.10.2020 and 30.09.2021 and is therefore subject to compulsory schooling from 01.08.2027. • For early enrolment: your child does not need language support www.berlin.de/sen/bildung/schule/bildungswege/fruehkindliche • If your child was born between 01.10.2021 and 31.03.2022, you can apply for early enrolment. • The requirement for this: the child must not need language support. For the application, please bring proof of language level, for example a QuaSta-Bogen (QuaSta form) or the language-level assessment from the BeoKiz procedure. If your child was born after 31.03.2022, they cannot be enrolled in school until summer 2028. • In-person school registration at the responsible school Please come accompanied by your child, so they can take the first step into their new learning environment together with you. If needed, bring support with you as well, for example for translation. • Reasons for changing to a different school A change of school is only possible if certain reasons apply under the Schulgesetz (School Act), for example: • Attending the responsible school would permanently reduce your child's personal contact with siblings or other children with whom they have a close bond. • You want your child to attend a school with a particular offering. This includes, for example, foreign languages or all-day care (Ganztagsbetreuung). • If your child attended the school of your choice, you would be able to look after them better, especially if you are employed. • Available places at the desired school Attending a different school is only possible if it has enough available places. If a school receives more registrations than it has places, the Schulamt (school office) reviews each individual case. It can then happen that, in good time before the summer holidays, you are told of a different nearby school that is willing to take your child.
