Requirements

• You are a citizen of the European Union (EU) or a national of the European Economic Area (EEA) You must not simultaneously be German within the meaning of Article 116 paragraph 1 of the Grundgesetz (Basic Law). • Have reached the age of 16 • Personal appearance You can only submit the application in person. • You are registered in Berlin • unless you are not subject to registration requirements and live in Berlin or abroad (e.g. tourists).

Documents you need

• valid identity document issued by your home country, e.g.: • a passport • or a national identity card/ID card (Personalausweis) • if applicable, proof of residence or address If you do not have a residence in Germany, proof of your residence in your home country is required. You can ask the responsible German mission abroad (embassy or consulate) which evidence must be provided.
