Application for compensation of honorary judges (lay judges) in the specialized courts (Fachgerichtsbarkeit) Submit the application in writing by post or fax, or hand it in in person: • You will receive the application form together with the summons to the hearing, at the hearing itself, or afterwards from the responsible Geschäftsstelle (registry office). Please submit the fully completed application to the court. • Certificate of attendance and payment order After the hearing, the presiding judge certifies on the application form your service as an honorary judge (lay judge) at the hearing and orders the payment of the compensation. • The payment order and the certificate of attendance must be signed by the court. • Certificate of loss of earnings Have you lost earnings as a result? Please have this certified by your employer. You received the form for the certificate of loss of earnings together with the application for compensation. Where applicable, you may already have provided the required information to the Vergütungs- und Festsetzungsstelle (Remuneration and Assessment Office) after your appointment; in that case it will not be needed again. • Proof of self-employment Are you self-employed? Please enclose corresponding proof of your self-employment (e.g. a trade licence/Gewerbeschein) and state your average monthly gross income from self-employed work as well as your regular working hours. Where applicable, you may already have provided the required information to the Vergütungs- und Festsetzungsstelle (Remuneration and Assessment Office) after your appointment; in that case it will not be needed again. • Substantiation of freelance activity Are you working as a freelancer? Please substantiate your freelance activity with suitable documents. Please also state your average monthly income from your freelance activity and your regular working hours. Where applicable, you may already have provided the required information to the Vergütungs- und Festsetzungsstelle (Remuneration and Assessment Office) after your appointment; in that case it will not be needed again. • Proof of travel costs or other expenses incurred Did you incur travel costs or other costs in order to attend the hearing? Please prove any travel costs for your journey to and from the hearing using appropriate receipts (e.g. original tickets, booking confirmations, invoices for flight tickets, accommodation costs).

Have you been summoned to a hearing by the Sozialgericht Berlin (Berlin Social Court)? • Then you can submit your Entschädigungsantrag (compensation application) in person at the Geschäftsstelle (registry), put it in the letter box of the Sozialgericht Berlin, or send it by post, fax, or, in compliance with the requirements for electronic legal transactions under the relevant provisions, to the sender of the summons.
