• Deadline for applications: 12.05.2026 - 15.07.2026 The application deadline ends on 15.07.2026 at 1 p.m. Online applications must be received by 1 p.m. After 1 p.m., submission is no longer possible; transmissions already in progress will then be automatically cancelled. • Kulturerbe-Einrichtungen (cultural heritage institutions) based in Berlin are eligible for funding • Kulturerbe-Einrichtungen (cultural heritage institutions) are, for example, archives, libraries, museums, memorial sites, etc. • Any cultural institution outside the Berlin administration that makes cultural assets available to the public can be a grant recipient • Institutions under the direct or indirect Trägerschaft (sponsorship) of the State of Berlin will be given priority • Institutions of the direct state administration will be transferred earmarked funds for independent management • The cultural assets to be digitized should be outstanding or in high demand • Check whether the selected collection is representative of Berlin and/or your institution. What distinguishes it? • What makes it interesting to the public and relevant to other (digital) users and target groups from the fields of science, education, or culture, in line with the aims of the funding guideline? • A coherent overall concept for the planned digitization project must be in place This includes, in particular, a description of the goals the institution aims to achieve through digitization. Projects in which the digitization process is designed to be sustainable are eligible for funding. • You have not yet begun digitizing the project Only projects whose implementation did not begin before the application was submitted will be funded. • Registration of the Kulturerbe-Einrichtung (cultural heritage institution) with the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (DDB, German Digital Library) All applicants undertake to register their institution with the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (DDB) and, where legally possible, to make the objects digitized or processed under the funding programme available to the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek. • The Kulturerbe-Einrichtung (cultural heritage institution) is listed in the Transparenzdatenbank (transparency database) of the State of Berlin transparenzdatenbank.berlin.de/

• Application for the digitalization of cultural heritage objects You can only submit the application online. • For the online application: please have all required documents and proof ready for upload in the formats XLSX, PDF, JPG, JPEG or PNG. The total size of your files must not exceed 30 MB. A single file may be no larger than 5 MB. • Project description In the project description, please provide information on • the value of the holdings, • the legal situation of the objects to be digitized, • the conservation situation, • the technical digitization, • the planned inventorying and cataloguing of the objects, • the presentation of the digitized items and metadata, • dissemination and reusability, • long-term archiving of the data. • Financing plan • Timeline • Number in the Transparenzdatenbank (transparency database) of the State of Berlin • Offers for services • For cooperation projects: Letter of Intent • Cost estimates (if available) • Photos or scans of the objects (if available) at least one representative example of the selected objects (e.g. scan or photo of the object)
