Requirements

Applications are possible from 06.07.2026 until 02.09.2026. The application deadline ends on 02.09.2026 at 11:00 a.m. Online applications must be received by 11:00 a.m. After 11:00 a.m. submission is no longer possible; transmissions already in progress will then be automatically aborted. • You live and work in Berlin • You have completed an artistic education and/or can demonstrate several years of artistic activity in the field of visual arts (bildende Kunst) • Presentation at venues for visual arts Only visual artists who can demonstrably show that they present their work professionally at venues for visual arts within exhibition contexts (museums, exhibition spaces, project spaces, etc.) are eligible for funding. • Main artistic focus in visual arts For artists working across disciplines, the main artistic focus must lie in the field of visual arts. • Application in German The application itself must be completed and submitted in German. The attachments (Anlagen) may be in English. • You apply as an individual or as a group (GbR – civil law partnership) A stipendium (scholarship/grant) is a form of funding tied to a person. Therefore only natural persons and GbRs (civil law partnerships) are eligible legal forms for applicants. The submitted documents must show that the group has been working together predominantly for at least 2 years. Groups formed only for the purpose of the application are not eligible. For groups, more than 50% of the group's members must be registered with their primary residence (1. Wohnsitz) in Berlin (for a group of 2 people, both; for a group of 3, at least 2; etc.). • Double funding / simultaneous funding or stipends • An application for the Arbeitsstipendium (work stipend) is possible even if you have applied for other stipends. However, you must report if you receive a commitment for another stipend, so it can be checked whether the two are combinable. The Arbeitsstipendium can be combined with other stipends from the State of Berlin up to a total of 24,000 euros per year, with the exception of the Recherchestipendium Bildende Kunst (research stipend for visual arts). • Funding is generally excluded if the artist has already received a stipend from the Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn for the funding year. • The Arbeitsstipendium can be freely combined with other stipends not named here, from funders in Germany or abroad. In this case, please be sure to find out whether the funding conditions of the other stipend rule out simultaneous acceptance. • Combinations with project funding (Projektförderung) are permitted. • No enrollment and no teaching activity as a professor at a university Applicants must not be enrolled at a university at the time of application and during the funding period (including for the purpose of a doctorate), and must not be employed as a (guest) professor at a university.

Documents you need

• Application for funding through the Arbeitsstipendium Bildende Kunst (working grant for visual arts) You can only submit the application online. Please have all required documents and evidence ready to upload in PDF format. • Detailed description of the planned work (max. 5 MB, PDF file, max. 2 DIN A4 pages) The following questions can help you with this: 1. For group applications, the maximum page count of 2 DIN A4 pages also applies. • Artistic CV with portfolio (max. 10 MB, PDF file, max. 10 DIN A4 pages) • In this combined file, the portfolio section should show photos or other visual material of completed works/exhibitions etc. For film and video material, the portfolio should include stills and a short description of the work, including working links (Vimeo or similar). • Please focus on works from the last three years! In the CV section, please list grants, awards, and a list of exhibitions and exhibition participations. • For group applications, the CVs must be combined into one file. For group applications too, the maximum page count is 10 DIN A4 pages. • Artistic CVs with portfolios longer than 10 DIN A4 pages will not be accepted. A cover sheet is not provided for. Please also note that the file must contain both a CV section and a portfolio section. In the interest of equal treatment of all applicants, the corresponding application will be formally excluded. • Proof of identity, proof of primary residence in Berlin, and, where applicable, proof of residence permit • a copy of both sides of the Personalausweis (identity card), if it shows your registered address, or • a copy of the page from your passport or passport substitute document plus the Meldebescheinigung (registration certificate) (see "Further information") • For non-EU citizens, additionally: a copy of the Aufenthaltstitel (residence permit) or the certificate of right of residence (if not included in the passport). Note: the residence permit card counts as both an identity document and a registration certificate. Please upload the relevant page showing the Berlin address. • For group applications, the evidence must be uploaded separately for each person. • Only for group applications (but mandatory there): a GbR (partnership under civil law) agreement, if a GbR already exists, or a declaration of association of artists signed by all group members The declaration must be signed by all applicants involved — just as the registered address must be proven for all group members.
