Universities that offer degree programs specific to guardianship work must have these programs recognized upon application. The same applies to further education and training programs specific to guardianship work offered by, or in cooperation with, universities for participants without a general university entrance qualification (Hochschulreife). Only once the degree programs, or the further education and training programs, are recognized do graduates' qualifications count as full proof of expertise (Sachkundenachweis). This gives graduates access to registration as professional legal guardians (Betreuerinnen und Betreuer) without having to provide further evidence. Process 1. As a university or cooperating university, submit an informal, written application for recognition of degree, further education, or training programs specific to guardianship work. 2. The responsible authority reviews your application. 3. Based on the outcome of the review, a Bescheid (official notice) on the recognition of the degree, further education, or training program specific to guardianship work is issued.

Requirements

• The university's location is in Berlin. • The guardianship-specific (betreuungsspezifisch) degree program must already be demonstrably accredited. • The guardianship-specific degree program must impart all Sachkunde (expertise) requirements. • The awarding of an academic degree upon successful completion of the guardianship-specific degree program must be documented. • The guardianship-specific education and further training programs should impart, at an academic level, significantly more extensive knowledge than a Sachkundelehrgang (expertise course). This means that both the content of the modules intended for the Sachkundelehrgang and their scope are binding. • The guardianship-specific education and further training programs must comprise a minimum of 270 Zeitstunden (clock hours). Given the complexity, a larger total scope should be planned. • For guardianship-specific education and further training programs, tested knowledge must be imparted and proven by a corresponding certificate (Zeugnis) from the provider. • For guardianship-specific education and further training programs, teaching units (Unterrichtseinheiten) can also be converted into ECTS, the unit customary at universities.
