Apply for recognition of a guardianship-specific expertise course or individual module
Anerkennung eines betreuungsspezifischen Sachkundelehrgangs oder Einzelmoduls beantragen
Machine translation of the German page, 2026-09-15. The German original is binding.
Anyone wishing to offer a Sachkundelehrgang (expertise course) under the Betreuungsorganisationsgesetz (Care Organisation Act), or individual modules of one, must have it recognised on application. Only then do the completion certificates of the participants in these courses or individual modules count as proof of the required expertise (Sachkunde). Anyone wishing to be registered as a Betreuerin or Betreuer (legal carer) needs such a nationwide-valid, complete proof of expertise.
The expertise courses are meant to be accessible to everyone — to people with or without prior care-specific knowledge. If someone can already prove part of the required expertise, they can complete individual modules to make up the knowledge still missing and so obtain the complete proof of expertise.
Recognition of a course, or of individual modules of it, is valid nationwide and is limited to 5 years.
Process
• As a provider of expertise courses, submit an informal, written application for recognition of an expertise course or individual module.
• The responsible authority examines your application.
• As a result of the review of the application, a decision (Bescheid) on the recognition of the expertise course or individual module is issued.
