Apply for an electronic Heilberufsausweis (eHBA, electronic health professional card) as a person working in a health profession

The elektronischer Heilberufsausweis (eHBA, electronic professional card for healthcare occupations) is a chip card for the personal authentication of people in healthcare professions. The eHBA gives you access to the Telematikinfrastruktur (TI, telematics infrastructure). The TI connects all parties involved in the healthcare system and will in future enable, for example, access to the elektronische Patientenakte (ePA, electronic patient record). There are different eHBA cards for different professional groups. There is an eHBA for doctors, for people in healthcare-related professions, and for pharmacists. Process 1. As a person in a healthcare-related profession without a state license (nicht-approbierte Person), submit an application for issuance of an elektronischer Heilberufsausweis (eHBA) to the elektronisches Gesundheitsberuferegister (eGBR, electronic healthcare professions register). You can do this online. 2. Pay the administrative fee. 3. After your application is received, your professional authorization is checked. 4. After the check is complete, you will receive an email with the results of the check and your case number (Vorgangsnummer). 5. Using the case number, you order your elektronischer Heilberufsausweis (eHBA) as a chip card, for a fee, from a Vertrauensdiensteanbieter (VDA, trust service provider) of your choice. Trust service providers are approved providers of digital certificates that can be used, for example, to create electronic signatures or carry out authentication (more information in the eGBR FAQ under "Further information").
