Applying for Support for Vocational Training in the State of Berlin (FBB)

• Berlin training relationship (Berliner Ausbildungsverhältnis) The training relationship (Ausbildungsverhältnis) to be supported was registered with a competent Berlin chamber (Kammer) / competent body in Berlin. • Passing the probationary period (Bestehen der Probezeit) The probationary period (Probezeit) agreed in the training contract was successfully completed. • First vocational training (Erstausbildung) The training relationship to be supported is a first vocational training (Erstausbildung), i.e. no other state-recognized vocational training or degree course was successfully completed beforehand. Exceptions to this are only possible when supporting joint training schemes (Verbundausbildungen). • where applicable, for joint training schemes (Verbundausbildung) Not all of the required training content can be provided within your own company? The funding program offers the possibility of subsidizing the costs of a joint training scheme (Verbundausbildung) with other companies, training providers, or school / higher-education institutions based in the State of Berlin, in order to ensure the quality of the training. • where applicable, for attendance at an out-of-area vocational school for so-called "Splitterberufe" (niche occupations) Splitterberufe are training occupations that are trained so rarely in the State of Berlin that no dedicated vocational school class can be formed, so that a vocational school outside the Berlin ABC pay-scale area (Tarifgebiet) must be attended. • where applicable, for disadvantaged persons (Benachteiligte) Persons with no or low school qualifications have poorer career starting chances. The funding program often enables career integration for these persons. Eligible for funding are companies that train persons who do not hold a school-leaving certificate (Abgangszeugnis), who hold only the Berufsbildungsreife (BBR & eBBR) [basic vocational education readiness qualification], or for whom special educational support needs (sonderpädagogischer Förderbedarf) were established when they left school. • where applicable, for occupations atypical for women or men Traditional occupations for men or women remain largely closed to women or men respectively. Berlin companies receive incentives to train women or men in these atypical occupations. In so-called occupations atypical for women or men, the proportion of female or male trainees (Auszubildende) is less than 20%. • where applicable, for parents / carers (Erziehende / Pflegende) Companies are entitled to apply if they make a training place available, as part of initial vocational training, to a parent with at least one child who has not yet turned twelve. A person counts as a parent (erziehend) if they live in the same household as the child. Funding is also possible for carers (Pflegende) who have been verifiably recognized as a caregiver for another person by a health insurance fund (Krankenkasse) or long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse). • where applicable, for taking on trainees from insolvent businesses / business closures Trainees (Auszubildende) who lost their training place due to the insolvency of the company or training provider, the closure of the company, or as a result of a prohibition on hiring and training in the State of Berlin issued by the competent state authority under Section 33 of the Berufsbildungsgesetz (BBiG) [Vocational Training Act] or Section 24 of the Handwerksordnung [Trade and Crafts Code], are unable to complete their training and therefore have poorer chances on the labor market. Continuation of the training at the company taking them on can be supported by the FBB. • where applicable, for refugees (Geflüchtete) Companies that fill training places with persons who hold a valid residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) under Chapter 2, Section 5 of the Aufenthaltsgesetz (AufenthG) [Residence Act] granted on grounds of international law, humanitarian, or political reasons, or a suspension of deportation (Duldung), or permission to reside for the purpose of carrying out an asylum procedure (Aufenthaltsgestattung), and who hold a permit to take up employment (and thus vocational training), and who entered the Federal Republic of Germany no more than 5 years before the start of the training (applies: from training start date 01.09.2021 onward), can receive funding for this.

The State of Berlin has commissioned the Handwerkskammer Berlin (Chamber of Crafts) to implement the FBB funding programme. Implementation by the Handwerkskammer Berlin does not mean that only training in skilled-trades occupations is eligible for funding. Rather, all training relationships at businesses in the private sector and the liberal professions are eligible for funding, provided one of the funding criteria is met.
