Stipendium Tanzpraxis (dance practice scholarship) — apply

• Applications are possible from 03.03.2026 to 14.04.2026 The application deadline ends on 14.04.2026 at 14:00 (CET). Online applications must be received by 14:00. After 14:00, submission is no longer possible; transmissions already in progress will then be automatically cancelled. Subsequent submission is not possible. • You are a professional artist with completed artistic training and/or can demonstrate several years of professional artistic activity in the field of dance. The criteria for awarding a scholarship (Stipendium) are primarily the quality of the artistic practice, the continuity and public visibility of the previous artistic work in Berlin, and the prospective development of the applicant in the field of contemporary dance. • Applications are possible only for individuals. Applications from groups/GbR (civil-law partnership) are not possible. A scholarship is a person-related grant, so only natural persons may apply. • Eligible to apply are individual artists in the field of dance at certain career stages. For determining the length of artistic work, the period after completion of training or study applies, i.e. periods of training and study do not count toward the years of professional practice. • "Emerging artists" – artists in their first professional phase: 3 to 5 years of artistic practice as a contemporary dancer or choreographer. • "Mid-career artists" – established artists: 6 to 10 years of artistic practice as a contemporary dancer or choreographer. • "Senior artists" – long-established artists: at least 11 years of artistic practice as a contemporary dancer or choreographer. • Only one application per person is possible. If several applications are submitted by the same person, the most recently submitted application is considered binding. • Application in German • The application form and the enclosures must be submitted in German. • The portfolio and the artistic CV may also be written in English. • The applicant must live and work in Berlin. • Scholarship holders are required to maintain their main residence (Hauptwohnsitz) in Berlin during the application process and for the duration of the scholarship. • Any change of residence must be reported to the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur (Senate Department for Culture) without delay. • Non-EU citizens living in Berlin may apply only if their passport/identity document does not carry a special note from the Ausländerbehörde (immigration office) prohibiting them from self-employed activity. • Double funding/simultaneous funding or scholarships are possible in principle. • An application for the Stipendium Tanzpraxis (dance practice scholarship) is possible even if you have applied for other scholarships. However, you must report it if you receive an offer for another scholarship, so that it can be checked whether the two are combinable. • The Stipendium Tanzpraxis can be combined with other scholarships from the state of Berlin up to a total of 24,000 euros per year. • The Stipendium Tanzpraxis can be freely combined with other scholarships from domestic and foreign funders not named here. In this case, please be sure to check whether the funding conditions of the other scholarship rule out simultaneous acceptance. • Combinations with project funding are permitted. • No enrolment and no employment as a professor at a university • At the time of application, applicants may not be enrolled at a university (including with the aim of a doctorate) or employed at a university as a professor. • If studies were completed only a short time before the application, proof of completion must be submitted without being requested (please attach the Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung [certificate of de-registration from the university] to the CV – this page does not count toward the maximum page count of the file "Künstlerischer Lebenslauf und Portfolio" [artistic CV and portfolio]).

• Application for funding through the Stipendium Tanzpraxis (Dance Practice Grant) Please submit the application and all attachments online. All required documents and evidence for upload must be submitted in PDF format. • Exposé / Detailed description of your artistic practice (PDF file, max. 2 DIN A4 pages, max. 5 MB) Please address the following points here: • What is distinctive about your artistic practice? • Describe your position within the contemporary Berlin dance scene. • Why is the grant necessary at this point in time for the development and consolidation of your artistic practice? • Artistic curriculum vitae (PDF file, max. 2 DIN A4 pages, max. 1 MB) Your CV must clearly and comprehensibly show what career stage you are at at the time of application, and that none of the above-mentioned grounds for exclusion apply. References to online links to your work are permitted. • Portfolio or documentation/information material on your artistic work to date (PDF file, max. 5 DIN A4 pages, max. 7 MB) In the portfolio, please concentrate — if available — on works from the last three years. Links to websites are explicitly welcome here. • Proof of identity / proof of Berlin address / residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) if applicable • For citizens with German citizenship: copy of a valid Personalausweis (identity card) (front and back). • For citizens from EU countries: copy of a valid identity card or passport and copy of the registration confirmation (Meldebestätigung) from the Einwohnermeldeamt (residents' registration office). • For citizens from non-EU countries with a residence permit card (Aufenthaltstitelkarte): the residence permit card counts as both an identification document and a registration confirmation. Please upload the relevant page showing your Berlin address. If the back states "siehe Zusatzblatt" (see supplementary sheet) under employment, please upload this as well. • For citizens from non-EU countries without a residence permit card: copy of a valid identity card or passport, copy of the registration confirmation (Meldebestätigung) from the Einwohnermeldeamt, and copy of the valid residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel) or the certificate of right of residence (front and back). Note: If no valid residence permit is held for the period of the application and the grant, no grant will be awarded.
