• You have been residing in the federal territory continuously for several years under toleration (Duldung), permitted stay (Gestattung), or with a residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) Different time periods apply depending on your life situation. • 30 months: If you have held a Duldung (toleration) for employment under Section 60d of the Aufenthaltsgesetz (Residence Act) for at least 30 months. • 4 years: If you live together with a minor, unmarried child. • 6 years: In all other cases. • You hold either a Duldung (toleration) or a valid residence permit under Section 104c of the Aufenthaltsgesetz (Residence Act) • Your identity has been established • You hold a valid passport or passport substitute • You commit to the free democratic basic order of the Federal Republic of Germany and have basic knowledge of the legal and social system and living conditions in the federal territory • Your livelihood is predominantly secured or will be fully secured in the future This requirement is waived if it cannot be met due to a physical, mental, or psychological illness or disability, or for reasons of age. A temporary receipt of social benefits is generally not a problem in these cases: • You are studying or are in a recognized vocational training program or a state-funded job preparation measure. • Or: As a family with minor children, you are temporarily dependent on supplementary social assistance. • Or: You are a single parent caring for a child under 3 years of age. • Or: You care for close family members who are in need of care. • You have sufficient spoken German language skills at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages This requirement is waived • for children under 6 years of age and adults aged 65 and over, or • if it cannot be met due to a physical, mental, or psychological illness or disability. • If you have a child of compulsory school age: You provide proof of that child's actual school attendance • No indications of a threat to public security or order • Even fines can prevent the issuance of the residence permit. • You do not pose a threat to the free democratic basic order or the security of the Federal Republic of Germany. • You are not involved in acts of violence in pursuit of political or religious goals, do not publicly call for the use of violence, and do not threaten it. • Main residence in Berlin You live in Berlin. A secondary residence in Berlin is not sufficient. • Current email address The Landesamt für Einwanderung (State Office for Immigration) will contact you using your current email address. Zuwanderer" [German test for immigrants] – competence level A2), • at least 3 years of successful attendance at a German general education school (promotion to the next higher class, and an overall grade or average grade of at least "sufficient" [ausreichend] on the last school report), • Successful completion of a degree at a German-language university or university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule), or of German-language training leading to a recognised vocational qualification. • Promotion to the tenth class of a German general education school, or • Attainment of the Berufsbildungsreife (basic vocational qualification) or an equivalent level of education, or a school-leaving qualification from a general education school. • Proof of basic knowledge of the legal and social order This proof can in particular be provided: • with a certificate of successful completion of the Integrationskurs (integration course) or the Orientierungskurs (orientation course) "Test Leben in Deutschland" [Life in Germany Test], or of the Einbürgerungstest (naturalisation test) • through successful attendance at a German general education school for four years, with promotion to the next higher class and an overall grade or average grade of at least "sufficient" on the last school report • through promotion to the tenth class of a German general education school (Integrierte Sekundarschule [integrated secondary school], Realschule, Gymnasium, or Gesamtschule [comprehensive school]) • through attainment of the German Berufsbildungsreife or an equivalent level of education, or a school-leaving qualification from a German general education school • through successful completion of qualified German vocational training, or having been in corresponding training within federal territory for at least one year • through successful completion of a degree at a German university or university of applied sciences • through the award of a doctorate (Promotion) from a German university • through the granting of state authorisation to practise a profession independently (Approbation) • If you are in dependent employment: evidence of means of subsistence • employment extract from the commercial register (Handelsregister) or a trade registration (Gewerbeanmeldung) (if no entry in the commercial register is required) • For freelancers: registration as a freelancer with the Finanzamt and chamber membership (Kammereintrag) (if required) • If you are not in employment: evidence of means of subsistence For example: • assessment notice for unemployment benefit I
